Area of Concentration: Analysis and Interpretation of Cultural Heritage
Line 01: Heritage and Society.
The "Heritage and Society" line of research focuses on the study of various concepts of heritage, from their genesis to their current diversity. It emphasizes the social construction of the concept of cultural heritage and its relationship with society and its various audiences. It investigates the representation and interpretation of cultural heritage. It addresses interdisciplinary methodologies
Line 02: Heritage Technologies.
The "Heritage Technologies" line of research seeks to investigate the specificities of material cultural assets in the Amazon, considering their constituent elements in the various types of cultural heritage collections, whether movable or immovable, through their behavior in the face of prevailing tropical weathering and its alterations. Based on the broad universe of materials, the use of both local products and those from distant sources, which could be from other parts of the country or from abroad, primarily Europe, is observed. Research should inform strategies, seek new technologies and solutions for the preservation of material cultural assets, and understand the composition of different materials and their deterioration. This will enable the development of conservation and restoration techniques adapted to the Amazonian context, whether through the availability of materials available in the region or the compatibility of intervention materials with historical ones, and, most importantly, by ensuring the durability of the technical procedures adopted. Knowledge of the materials and the characterization of changes in local climate conditions will provide the foundations for establishing scientific foundations that meet regional demands for safeguarding Brazilian cultural heritage. These strategies not only replicate successful experiences in other conditions and contexts across the country, but also align with the social, cultural, and environmental realities of the Amazon.
